Our Story
In 2020, the co-founders of Radiant Rural made a family visit to Kinyangiri village located in the remote and rural area of the Singida region. Unfortunately, COVID19 was declared a pandemic, thus prolonging the stay of co-founders for a month in the village.
Nevertheless, it gave them plenty of time to explore the village and its local community. After a month of their stay, they noticed many children below six years old roaming freely in the village streets. The village has quite a larger population of children below the age of six compared to the rest of the population. Despite that, the local community had no early childhood development centre or playgrounds in the village, thus forcing all of the children supposedly to stay home with little to learn or play with. Some children play on their own in the streets, while others follow their parents or related adults to work. And even worse, some children loiter in the bus stands, bars, and shops to beg for food and money.
Witnessing this societal problem in Kinyangiri village, the co-founders decided to talk about the issue with local government leaders and the community in general. It was unanimously agreed that the village needs a centre to provide early childhood education to children. However, the village government leaders stressed that there are no funds or capacity to build such a centre.
The co-founders sympathized with the community, but understand that education and knowledge acquisition is the best tool to empower the community out of poverty. Their strong belief in education pushed them to make concrete decisions.
They decided to help the children in the village by building an early childhood development centre and a playground.
